Forgiving Yourself of the Past
Beating yourself up about what happened days, weeks, months or even years ago? As much as we would like to, we cannot go in the past and correct those mistakes. However, we can make a decision to learn from them and start forgiving ourselves. One of the most important factors to realise is that you’re human; you will make mistakes. However, this doesn’t mean that you have to live with the guilt’s of your past.
God desires for you to be free from guilt, free from depression, free from the past. The scripture declares, 2 Corinthians 5:17 New International Version – UK (NIVUK) 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come:[a] the old has gone, the new is here!
When God forgives us, He makes a very important promise to us that we must also make when we forgive others. God says, Hebrews 8:12 New International Version – UK (NIVUK) 12 For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more. Hebrews 10:17 New International Version – UK (NIVUK) 17 Then he adds: ‘Their sins and lawless acts I will remember no more.
When we ask for forgiveness in genuine repentance He forgives. God can do something we are incapable of doing He Chooses to remember our sins no more. He doesn’t forget which is all we can do and in fact we can’t choose to forget either. So when we go back to Him and mention our sins that have been forgiven He says I don’t know what you are talking about. Cleansed and washed from our sin. The word is Justified in other words just if I’d never sinned.
More Than Conquerors
Romans 8:31 New International Version (NIV) More Than Conquerors 31 What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?
When we walk in His light and obedience there is nothing that man can do against us. We are more than conquerors, not losers, not those that scrape by, we are winners.
Tragically, too many people, including many of God’s own children, declare the wrong things in their lives and then seem surprised when these wrong things manifest for them. As human beings, created with free will, there are only two positions to take concerning what we come into agreement with: what God has said about us, or the lies that the devil has said and continues to say regarding who we are, and what path our lives should take. We either speak life, which is to come into agreement with what God has spoken concerning us, which is Jeremiah 29:11 New International Version (NIV) 11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
