Truth is authenticity. God wants people to be truthful about how they are feeling, what they are saying, and at times what they are thinking.
“Yes I’m fine Praise God, life is wonderful” but the truth is, that is not how you feel. Living a false life does not permit you to grow in God as you do not do anything about your situation. No you dont have to wear your heart on your sleeve and express all your feelings to everyone but there are times when being open is essential. You can still be truthful without being false. Yes I can hear someone saying but we must be positive, that is true but we can not evade reality either. Whilst there is a truth in what we express “Yes I’m fine Praise God, life is wonderful” we are not acknowledging our true condition and actively addressing it with Gods help and maybe support from another. You know in your heart if that expression is the living truth of what is going on in your life or is it a cliche, maybe a lie?
“I will do that for you”, and you have no intention of doing it, or is it you are in-disciplined in remembering your word. Our word should always be the truth and a disciplined life to ensure we honour our word.
There are situations where it is necessary for you to speak the truth in to a situation or do you remain quite as this is less hassle and confrontational. To express your thoughts in every situation is not correct but there are times when you know you should speak up and others to remain silent. It is responding fully in obedience as God prompts you.
Neither are there grades of truth or lies. There is not such a thing as a white lie, as what we say is either true or untrue.
For us to operate on the same basis as it was said of God in (Numbers 23:19) is a standard I believe God wishes us to live by. God is not man, one given to lies, and not a son of man changing his mind. Does he speak and not do what he says? Does he promise and not come through?
God is truthful about who He is and what people need to do in order to lead a better life. God wants people to speak the truth from their hearts (Psalm 15:2) “Walk straight, act right, tell the truth”. God wants you to be truthful from the inner parts of your heart (Psalm 51:6) “You’re the One I’ve violated, and you’ve seen it all, seen the full extent of my evil. You have all the facts before you; whatever you decide about me is fair. I’ve been out of step with you for a long time, in the wrong since before I was born. What you’re after is truth from the inside out. Enter me, then; conceive a new, true life”. Walking in truth brings liberty and freedom.
Let us be a people who speak the truth and say what we mean, mean what we say, and do what we say.
